Picture this: a classroom where students know exactly what they’re supposed to be doing during every activity and routine. Sounds pretty great, right? CHAMPS classroom management displays can help make it happen!
During my first year teaching, my classroom was honestly a bit “chaotic” (that may or may not be the exact word my principal used!). I learned the hard way that students need clear, consistent expectations. I originally created these CHAMPS posters for my own classroom in 2017, and I’ve continued to update and improve them over the years to make them more effective and, of course, cuter!
In this blog post, we’ll dive into how my Editable CHAMPS Classroom Management Posters & Digital Display can help you set clear expectations, reinforce positive behavior, and keep your classroom running smoothly!
What is CHAMPS for Classroom Management?
CHAMPS uses an acronym to explicitly communicate expectations before students begin an activity or lesson.
C – Conversation: What voice volume level is appropriate right now?
H – Help: How should students get assistance or ask a question?
A – Activity: What specific task or assignment are students completing?
M – Movement: What does safe movement look like for this activity?
P – Participation: What specific actions show that a student is engaged and on-task?
S – Success! What is the ultimate outcome when expectations are met and everyone thrives?

How to Set Clear Expectations with CHAMPS
One of the best things about CHAMPS is that you can use it to set clear expectations for almost any classroom activity. Use your CHAMPS posters to outline exactly what students should be doing during independent work, partner activities, small groups, centers, transitions, and more.
Before starting a new activity, quickly review the CHAMPS expectations with your students so they know how to behave responsibly. Display your expectations using the printable, editable CHAMPS posters or the digital display. You can easily update the expectations throughout the day with either format!
This proactive approach keeps the focus on teaching students what to do rather than constantly correcting what they’re doing wrong.
The key is consistency! When students know what is expected during each activity, transitions become smoother, teaching and learning time is used more effectively, and your students are set up for success!
